Creative Museum Navigation
Columbus Museum of Art in Columbus, Ohio
Creative Museum Navigation is an interactive project by Forrest Sincoff Gard and Jeni Hansen Gard. The project was designed to navigate visitors throughout the museum, encouraging them to slow down, spend time in, and observe some of the often, less-noticed architectural details and spaces.
Throughout the Columbus Museum of Art, there are 8 ceramic tiles hidden among the hallways, artworks, and bathrooms. By creating a rubbing of the tile, the carved underlying image will be exposed. You need to collect all 8 rubbings to complete the image. The companion map, illustrated by Julie Martin, will guide you through the museum to each tile location. Use the backside of the map to collect your rubbings and complete the scavenger hunt.
As you arrive at each location, you will need to find the tile, create a rubbing, and look around the room or the corner and try to find out what is being referenced. Enjoy this alternative museum experience and have fun!
Special thanks to our collaborators and assistants: Janek Dragowski and Ola Jehn-Olszewska and Julie Martin who created the map.
